Performance Fabrics
If you've been around fabric at all in the past few years you have likely heard the word, "performance fabric." This term is used to describe fabrics that have some inherent quality or applied treatment that extends their life, makes them more durable or more stain resistant.
A few things to remember about performance fabrics. First - no fabric is indestructible, even a performance fabric. Next, even if a fabric is listed as performance, stain resistant, etc. - stains can still seep between the threads and onto the fabric and fillers underneath the fabric which will still show as a stain. Lastly, any statement made on this website, any of our materials or by any of our wonderful customer service folks is made based on the fabric manufacturer's information. We can not promise, guarantee nor warranty the wear of any fabric.
Double Rubs and Cleaning Instructions
DOUBLE RUBS
The Fabric Industry has designed a unique grading scale called "double rubs." Using a specially designed machine, a piece of fabric is placed under a pad that rubs back and forth (it rubs one way then rubs back the other way = double rubs) and counts the number of times it rubs. Fabrics are graded based on the number of double-rubs or DR's that it can withstand before showing wear and tear.
CLEANING CODES
Like Double Rubs, every fabric is graded on the type of cleaning products that can be used to clean the fabric without damaging it. As always we recommend trying any cleaning product on a hidden corner or edge regardless of the cleaning code.
Most of our fabrics have a cleaning code of "S" for Soap and Water. This does not mean that the fabric can not withstand additional cleaning products, only that the company has only certified the fabric to be cleaned with soap and water.
Only our Ultra Performance Fabrics carry the cleaning code WSB for fabrics that are cleanable with water-based detergents, solvents and bleach.
